Faux Brick Wall Tutorial

Faux Brick Wall Tutorial

So after our Dining Room revamp we decided the room next to our Dining Room needed a little makeover as well, it is our front living room and I felt like it needed a faux brick wall so here is a tutorial on the process. This room is a smaller space and has served as a piano practice room, gymnastics practice area and several other things over the years but I finally wanted to make it a comfy little space that we can hang out in.

After the walls were painted with the same Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams as the Dining Room I decided to do a fun accent wall, I had seen several other bloggers do faux brick walls with the German Smear technique and I wanted one for my own house. So my husband and I went and got 3 brick panels at Lowe’s to hang on one wall in the room.

We used low dust drywall mud and trowels to smear the mud onto the bricks.

This was a fairly simple process with both of us working on it we even had some help from our girls, I would take a step back every now and then and look at it from a distance and add more to the areas that needed more, once we were done we noticed an area that seemed to have more mud or a thicker spot so we just simply took a low grid sandpaper and lightly sanded some of the mud off the bricks to make a more even look.  I love the outcome and how this project turned out.

I also went and picked up a new sofa, I found a great deal on a sofa at Big Lots and for the price the quality seems really nice. Although we are not totally finished with this room I wanted to share with you what the brick wall looks like.  We still need to add some finishing touches like a coffee table, side table and a couple of lamps but we are going to take our time and search for the perfect pieces to complete the room.  We may even have another DIY and make our own coffee table, we haven’t quite figured that out yet but stay tuned!

Jason is also going to build a floating shelf for behind the sofa, he actually will use the wood mantel that we removed from the faux fireplace my dad built, he is going to cut that in half and used the wood to build the shelf.  I love to repurpose things!

I framed several of my favorite photos from our family travels which I really love.  Picked up some black frames from Kohl’s and I just love how it brings art that has a personal touch to our space so I will arrange these on the floating shelf.  We will also hang one of the spool clocks we made above the shelf. I want to get some fun plants to add to the shelf I think it will help finish up the room.

So anyways, I will add a photo when we are totally done with the room but I am in no hurry, I want to find the perfect pieces to complete the space no matter how long that takes, but for now we are enjoying the two rooms, we hope you do too!
